Quad Report: Sept 15/12 - Beautiful Weather

It has been beautiful weather - warm sunny days and cool nights. Lots of guests this past August and Sept with bookings well into October. Curt and I have been out on the horses lots following game trails and spending more time close to home on the little trails that are one way in and one way out but excellent for vistas as you can see. I really haven't spent much time on them and am finding them to be very entertaining and even more quiet than the trails already are out behind us. Lindsay and Julie (Secretary for the Quad Squad) rode in and we went for a tour - was a lot of fun. Plenty of season left. Keep an eye out for our new website. When we have put the last cedar shake on the gables of the newest cabin we will update the site! Cheers - V

Kayla & Jay's Wedding - Sept 1/12

Congratulations to Kayla and Jason on their wedding at our Summit Creek Cabins! Weather threatened but held with no major delays. They got engaged here last year and we were thrilled to have them and their guests here for their wedding. Our family and friends were here - Mom (poor Dad is helping with harvest back in Sask) Clayton & Linda up from Arizona, Kevin and Holly and Wade in from Saskatchewan and Ezzy down from Red Deer area. Belly laughs and great quadding had by all. I have to say....Tent mountain random camping area looked like a mini Mcgillvray. Hunting starts soon. Wall tents will be everywhere out back. Weather has been hot and sunny and today it was really cool ....made a fire in the house....and spotty rain and windy. Tomorrow is a return to the fantastic fall weather. Cooling down is good for hunting and fishing. If you can get away for some riding it is a wonderful fall. Cheers - V

Quad Report: Aug 8/12 Out on the Trails

We were out on the trails on Wed and they were a challenge! There were some of the biggest mud holes we have ever seen on the trail to Corbin. Curt and I had to get winched out twice! The water in early summer washed a few stretches out down the middle so negotiating them takes some deliberate driving. I cannot upload the photos so go to Inn on the Border on Facebook to see the album. Its a good-er! Curt and I in water/mud up so that almost just the top of the seat is showing! My parents had a blast in the commander - Donn was making Glennys shout a bit! LOL. The kids seemed to handle it like pros. We are getting rusty. All work and no play....The sun is shining and it is hot and the other night's rain (and a minute of hail) cut the dust dramatically. Come on out and play! Cheers -V

Quad Report: July 25/12 The Status of the Atlas area

Sorry Sorry Sorry....I know it has been a while but renovations and a family vacation and nothing to report but rain kept me from the blog. Besides in the summer its always good weather to quad right? Rum Runner had all the usual events, heritage site tours, midway for the kids, a parade but without the fireworks it was dead here. Kids could have done midway without so much as a 2 minute line-up. Wonder what will happen next year as many businesses went from booked solid and running off their feet to empty and dead. Too bad. Anyway the sun is shining and the trails are pretty quiet even in the areas that are usually full of RVs. Remember if you are saving your vacation days til fall that hunting happens out here curbing a bit of your riding access. On another note....Atlas Staging area north of Hwy #3 across from the Devon Gas Plant is closing August 13th. Yep and Devon is closed and being dismantled too. The logging road is on private land and they are done with its use for approx the next 20years. It is failing in some areas and not considered safe. The Quad squad offered to put in three new bridges and other assistance. The municipality is not interested as it falls into another municipality. The Quad squad has about half a million dollars invested in those trails accessed by that road. Spray Lakes will begin decommissioning the road at about kilometer #19 to 34 of a total of 42kms up in around the Dutch Creek connector area. Spray Lakes - the owner of the lease was hoping to come to a resolution but are unable to justify paying to maintain the road to the minimum level. Total decommissioning is said to take three years. These three events are a real blow to the businesses in the Crowsnest Pass. We will update our website with the photo of the newest cabin that replaces the doublewide trailer hopefully by August. The change of name just reflects the realization of our dream to upgrade our accommodations to better serve our great group of "regulars" and to make the guest experience here even more private and special. We have our 330 Polaris Magnum for sale if you are looking for a dependable 4WD quad that will go a lot of places but be light weight. It has had many new parts put onto it, comes with front and back racks and is in very good running order $2600. Weather is great - sunny days and cool breeze in the evening for fresh air sleeping. Quad Report: June 6/12 - a bit of Snow

Yep that be snow up in them there hills. It has been snowing down here on and off. Rained steady last night and we have a rainfall warning for 50mm in the Elk Valley. It is cold too - at 3 to 7 degrees forecasted for the evenings and 13 to 20 above for the days over the next week. Benefit is no dust on the trail - fun filled creek crossings and everything is green! May even find mud if you can find enough dirt. Our group went whitewater rafting on the Bull today and said it was great but wow the water was high - too high to shoot the Elk river. Full sized trees floating down the river. They had fun and were back and out on the quads tonight. We are booked this week and weekend but have two cabins open next week when it is supposed to warm up. We are changing things up here. With the addition of two new cabins we have decided to change our name from Inn on the Border to Summit Creek Cabins. We thought it would reflect that we rent cabins and are no longer an "Inn" with a bar and restaurant. The "Inn" is now just our home. Same year round trail access and fun. So soon you will see the website change and the name Summit Creek Cabins will eventually wean out the Inn on the Border name. Quad Report: May 24/12 - 2cm of slushy snow

Well we knew it would drop to 4 degrees but we expected more rain than snow. Nope. Snow and 2 degrees. It is chilly out - no wind down here but in the wind it would be not very nice. Supposed to warm up Sat and Sun to the teens and be sunny with cloud and then Sunny on Monday. Just thought I would give you a glimpse at the local weather. Moisture is good though - we needed this. Quad Report: May 22nd/2012 - light showers

Hi Gang, Fireban is off in Alberta - May long weekend was very nice weather as opposed to the hail, snow and bit of rain we got on Thursday but we needed that moisture. It is spitting right now and is supposed to keep that up for the week until the weekend. Forecast is for 1mm daily with 5 mm mid week. Trevor I am thinking you saw that forecast. Hold off - Pincher supposed to be the same. This is great to quell the dust and its not cold - just right for a spring shower actually but if you were spontaneously going to come out and ride and can hold off a couple of days then I would unless you are prepared for getting wet. Again if you are looking for a July weekend to ride then we have 19th through to the 26th open due to cancellation of the Thunder in the Valley.
